OVERALL EXPERIENCE
Volunteers are not assigned duty during the first week of arrival to allow time to get acclimated to the area.   Charleston is an exceptionally clean and friendly city.  The snack bar aboard the Ferry to Ft. Sumter is available to Volunteers the same as the Boat Crew.
Volunteers are provided a reciprocal pass, which allows each volunteer and one guest free entrance to 42 Charleston Historic Sites;  including Harbor Cruises, Military Museum, South Carolina Aquarium.
National Park Service Volunteer Hats and Polo Shirts provided.
Volunteers can wear Khaki, Beige, Olive Drab shorts/pants/trousers
Volunteers are recognized with a Dinner Cruise during October.
A 20 minute historic narrative is played enroute to Fort Sumter.  Prior to docking at Fort Sumter, Volunteers provide additional information to enhance the safety and enjoyment of visitors to Ft. Sumter.
Spirit Lines has the concession for the Fort Sumter Tour.  The Administrator, Captains and Crew appreciate the contributions of Volunteers. This is a valuable and rewarding historical experience.  We had a 2 month commitment, and stayed 3 months.
Charleston has been such an exceptional City to visit, and we enjoy working with the great NPS Staff and at the Historic sites.
